How blockchain can help developing countries in Central America

Browsing through the inter-webs surrounded by your Crypto-friends you may have spotted the following cartoon:

Is this a crypto-nerds only joke? Or a witty “sad but true” commentary on the wrong focus on crypto?
We like to think it’s both. And this is why taking our time to understand what blockchain really is and how it can provide a much-needed breakthrough and (for the lack of a better buzzword — but we promise it’s been used properly here not just for buzz) disruption of the way everyone one of us lives their lives.
Nope, we’re not exaggerating here.
Living in a developing country is quite like living in the past in many ways. Economic growth is much smaller than developed countries and technological advances are not always achieved first in them.
It’s true that because of socioeconomic factors each country has different challenges. Let’s talk about Central America as an example. Central America is composed of seven different countries (and no — don’t worry we won’t make this a geography lesson just bear with us on this one) these are El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Belize and Panama.
Let’s take Honduras and a recent example of a challenge they faced as a nation. Honduras celebrated their presidential elections recently and the legitimacy of the outcome and consequent actions from the party in power were quite controversial. A large portion of the citizenship believed the results of the election were manipulated which in turn led to protests and violent demonstrations in the capital.
Let’s pause for a bit and think how elections, to illustrate the earlier example, could have been improved by blockchain? An incorruptible and non-forgeable record of the results of the election updated in real-time as each vote is a unique token transaction — a smart contract — in charge of adding to each candidate or party. Would this help with the legitimacy of the elections? It would certainly be an improvement. It would be a step in the right direction — this is how blockchain can transform an entire region.
Let’s talk again about how living in a developing country is, sort of, like living in the past. If you could use a time machine and go back in the past carrying all of the knowledge you have today and the technology that benefits you today — would you do it? Would you use this power for good?
This is our vision. To bring the future and beyond to a region that has all of the natural resources and, more importantly, the human capital available to succeed and become the next Tech Hub for Startups and Entrepreneurs using Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies as a way of making everyone’s lives better.
Let’s take one more example — life expectancy in developing countries is shorter than in developed countries. Life expectancy in France for both male and female is 82 years old; and in Guatemala it is 71 years with Violence topping the list of cause of death. Could a decentralized platform that works on blockchain allow for better crime reporting and potentially work as a deterrent for violent crimes taking people’s lives? Blockchain could literally save lives in Guatemala while being an effective measure against a complicated problem that sees no simple answer.
These are some of the examples we recognize and want to change. We have the necessary tools to do it and with our partners and support SprintX plans to be the first brick in the building of a new wave of development that changes entire countries and with it improves lives. Understanding the technology behind the plan is the first step.
If it sounds like a dream then we urge you to check our Whitepaper and website. The future is far closer than you think.
